BIO

Connor MacLeod is a saxophonist, educator, and bandleader living in New York City. Having already performed at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center, Connor has developed a personal approach to the jazz idiom founded in the traditions of the great musicians of our time.

Connor has received national acclaim from prestigious institutions such as the National YoungArts Foundation, and has won eight awards from DownBeat magazine for composition, arrangement, and improvisation. Soon to be graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, Connor will be pursing a master’s degree at The Juilliard School in the fall. He is constantly searching for ways to become a deeper student of the jazz tradition, and he has studied and performed with greats such as Charles McPherson, Grant Stewart, Chris Byars, and Vincent Herring. In addition to performing, Connor has a private lessons studio in which he focuses on teaching saxophone technique, repertoire, improvisation, and compositional styles. He also doubles on the flute and clarinet.

Recently, Connor has expanded his portfolio with a new recording, THE BASIN STREET PROJECT: A Tribute to Clifford Brown and Max Roach. This new band focuses on performing the lesser known compositions of the acclaimed Brown and Roach Quintet, seeking to highlight the historical convention of the bebop vernacular through contemporary media. You can find these recordings on Connor’s YouTube page, website, Instagram, and FaceBook. Be on the lookout for these recordings on your personal streaming platforms in the coming months.
